Job Role: Production and Studio Assistant

WELCOME TO ISLA DE GAR
Launched in 2020, Isla de Gar is an accessories brand that creates handmade crochet bags and scrunchies. Based in East London, we are looking for a part-time Production and Studio Assistant to join our team primarily to crochet bags and fulfil orders.

Bringing together a love of organic forms with a desire to create low waste, slow fashion, Isla de Gar creates sculptural, tactile, wearable accessories. We champion craftsmanship, individuality, longevity and excellent design to create products that are beautiful and don’t cost the earth. 

We are looking to expand our small team and welcome a new production assistant. You will work directly with our Junior Production and Designer to fulfil webshop and wholesale orders. All applicants must have excellent crochet and hand sewing skills. You will be trained in creating our specific designs but a strong understanding of advanced crochet is an absolute must. 

You’ll be based at our studio in East London. This is the hub of Isla de Gar - our office, design studio, production factory and (sometimes) shop. It’s a fun environment, where we all work together for a common goal - to make great products that don’t cost the earth! There is opportunity to get involved in other areas of the business and work collaboratively with the whole team. We’re looking for someone who is kind, hard-working, passionate and up for getting stuck in!

Minimum requirements

  • Advanced crocheting skills
  • Good hand sewing skills
  • Basic sewing machine skills

Responsibilities and expectations

  • Fulfilment: all of our accessories are handmade to order in our London studio. Working with the production team you will fulfil webshop and stockist orders. 
  • Social content around the studio: as a small team we all chip in to get some BTS content for use on social media. There is no pressure to be filmed if you don’t want to be, but we would love for you to pick up your phone and capture the day to day happenings.
  • Interest in how a small business is run: we all work in one room together, so you are right in the middle of a small business. This creates an exciting, reactive environment that can sometimes be a bit hectic! 
  • Uses initiative: although you’ll work with Production and Design, there is an expectation that you will also be able to work independently. Usually there are always products to make but in the downtimes then we would expect you to find a way to fill that time - perhaps stock organising or creating your own project, if you like!
  • Uses time efficiently and effectively: time management is key for production. As everything is made to order, our customer has an expectation on when their order will arrive and it is Production's job to ensure this is adhered to. 
  • Interest in fashion accessories: at Isla de Gar we have a passion for beautiful accessories. We hope whoever joins the team will also share this love of fashion and keep up to date with trends and the industry. 
  • Potential for growth in the company: although this is a part time role, there is potential for this role to expand in both time and responsibilities. We are a growing company and would love for you to be on this journey with us.
