WELCOME TO ISLA DE GAR
Launched in 2020, ISLA DE GAR is a contemporary handbag brand that embodies playfulness and brings joy to those who wear them. We are fast becoming the go-to bridal bag for brides, wedding guests and bridesmaids with our signature styles the Hive and Nest, all crocheted to order in our East London studio.
We are looking for a part-time Production and Studio Assistant to join our team to fulfil online and stockist orders, through crochet and hand sewing.
Bringing together a love of organic forms with a desire to create low waste, slow fashion, ISLA DE GAR creates sculptural, tactile, wearable accessories. We champion craftsmanship, individuality, longevity and excellent design to create products that are beautiful and don’t cost the earth.
We are looking to expand our small team and welcome a production assistant. You will work directly with our Head of Production and Founder to fulfil ecommerce and wholesale orders. All applicants must have excellent crochet and hand sewing skills. You will be trained in creating our specific designs, but a strong understanding of advanced crochet is an absolute must.
You’ll be based at our studio in Hackney Wick. This is the hub of ISLA DE GAR - our office, design studio, production factory and (sometimes) shop. It’s a fun environment, where we all work together for a common goal - to make beautiful bags that look like nothing else out there, and that don’t cost the earth!
We’re looking for someone who is kind, hard-working, passionate and up for getting stuck in.

Production Assistant
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced crochet skills
- Excellent hand sewing
- Good sewing machine skills
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Sew and crochet ecommerce and stockist orders
- Please note this is not a design role. This role is part of the production team, and your sole responsibility will be to fulfil and package orders.
- Fulfilment: all our accessories are handmade to order in our London studio. Working with the production team you will fulfil ecommerce and stockist orders.
- Packaging: As part of fulfilment, you will be expected to package and send out orders to customers. This includes, but is not limited to, tagging products, wrapping items, organising shipment and mail safe packaging.
- Interest in how a small business is run: we all work in one room together, so you are right in the middle of a small business. This creates an exciting, reactive environment.
- Uses initiative: although you’ll work with Production, there is an expectation that you will also be able to work independently.
- Uses time efficiently and effectively: time management is key for production. As everything is made to order, our customer has an expectation on when their order will arrive, and it is Production's job to ensure this is adhered to.
- Interest in fashion accessories: at ISLA DE GAR we have a passion for beautiful accessories. We hope whoever joins the team will also share this love of fashion and keep up to date with trends and the industry.
To be clear, this is not a design role. It is a production and studio assistant position. We are looking for someone to take responsibility for making our bags, under the direction of our Head of Production.
